Long Weekend - Day Trip 2

~ Click on images to enlarge them ~

Yesterday, we headed inland past Pietermaritzburg to the Midlands, to do some meandering...

It was a fairly early start, as we had lots of fun stops planned for the kids and us too. We could not have asked for better weather, the sunshine was warm and very welcoming on this autumn day.

First stop, was Howick Falls...it has been a while since I was up here, yet it was still beautiful to look at, made the previous falls we saw on Saturday seem very, very small in comparison...although nothing as close as Victoria falls.

Next stop was Piggly Wiggly..it was our first time there. With so much to see and do, but I aim was to do the Maize Maze. So, we will be back to spend a day here eating and shopping up a storm.

Then it was onto Swissland Cheese where the cheese is made purely by goats only. Girls got to spend some time feeding them, before we did some cheese tasting which ended up in us buying lots of delicious cheeses to bring home...yum yum!

Then it was time for lunch...we headed onto our next stop the famous Bierfassel which serves delicious German food, as Murray had to have his Eisbein, while I settled for a traditional Tiroler Grostl. The kids loved spending time at their play area, while we relaxed, and Amy even got to hold a chameleon...have not seen one of those in ages!

After lunch we took the girls to The Junction to do some candle dipping, they loved it...

Off we headed to Rawdons for a bit of relax time near the dam, the gardens looked so beautiful with their autumn leaves and splendor...it was breathtaking.

Last stop...was Granny Mouse's Country House for a much needed cappuccino and their delicious scones. The girls loved how the sweet dog walked them into the lounge area...they thought it was so cool. It has been a while since I had been back here and they have made quite a few alterations and additions...like a chapel for those of you wanting to get married, makes for a beautiful setting.

All in all it was a wonderful day, and we also found a few other places which we will definitely pay a visit to next time.

Off to bed now...hope you all enjoy your last day of the long weekend tomorrow.

  1. Oh wow, this brought back fond memories of the Midlands - one of our favourite places in KZN. Last time we were at Swissland Cheese one of the goats gave birth right in front of us. And when last have I seen a chameleon - his so cute - not speak of your girls.
